Located near the entrance hall, the CHIST Resource Center acts as a hub of learning for our students and wider community. The library welcomes all members of our CHIST community. Grades 1 - 5 will visit weekly, fostering a love of reading by storytime sessions and book talks with the opportunity to browse and borrow books themselves. Research skills start early at CHIST, as students learn with age-appropriate resources to follow their own lines of inquiry.
To promote literacy in both English and Japanese, the CHIST Resource center already offers a variety of reading materials in both languages, and will broaden our collection to include other languages in the future. As our students grow in the research skills, they can take advantage of OPAC, an online database of sources, from the CHIST website in English or Japanese to search for references or to access online encyclopedias.
Our varied collection continues to grow, especially as we welcome our middle school and high school students next year. Requests are always welcome at the circulation desk; CHIST family members are also encouraged to make use of Resource Center to borrow or order books.
